Northern Kentucky churches band together to help flooding victims in state

ASSISTANCE. MEANWHILE, A COUPLE OF NORTHERN KENTUCKY CHURCHES ARE BANDING TOGETHER TO PROVIDE RELIEF FOR THE PEOPLE OF HAZARD, KENTUCKY, ONCE AGAIN. RACHEL WHALEN SPOKE WITH LEADERS ABOUT THIS PROJECT. AND, RACHEL, WHAT EXACTLY ARE THESE CHURCHES ASKING FOR? THEY SAY THE NUMBER ONE NEED IS CLEANING SUPPLIES. SO THINK MOPS, BROOMS, BUCKETS, CLOROX WIPES, PAPER TOWELS, THINGS LIKE THAT. AND CORNERSTONE CHRISTIAN CHURCH HERE IN DAYTON, KENTUCKY, IS ONE OF THE SEVERAL CHURCHES THAT ARE COLLECTING THESE ITEMS. STARTING ON THURSDAY. WE HAVE A WONDERFUL COUNTRY CHURCH HERE, AND AS SOON AS I PUT OUT THE CALL, PEOPLE BEGAN TO SAY, WHAT CAN WE BRING? WHAT CAN WE BUY? WHAT CAN WE GET? ANSWERING THE CALL ALMOST 200 MILES AWAY. CORNERSTONE CHRISTIAN CHURCH, FIRST BAPTIST OF DAYTON AND VISALIA BAPTIST IN COVINGTON ARE ALL COLLECTING ITEMS FOR FLOODING VICTIMS IN EASTERN KENTUCKY. ON TOP OF CLEANING SUPPLIES, THEY’RE ASKING FOR BABY ITEMS SUCH AS FORMULA AND DIAPERS, AS WELL AS WATER AND NONPERISHABLE FOOD ITEMS. REVEREND ASHLEY BEEGLE SAYS THEY WON’T STOP UNTIL THIS HIGH ON GOD CARGO TRUCK IS FULL. LAST TIME WE WERE DOWN THERE, LITERALLY, IT TURNED MY STOMACH WHEN I SAW SOME OF THESE HOUSES. THEY WERE DESTROYED. THESE PEOPLE LOSE EVERYTHING. IN 2022, THE SAME THREE CHURCHES ENDED UP TAKING FOUR TRIPS TO HAZARD, KENTUCKY. FIREFIGHTERS DISTRIBUTED 20,000 POUNDS OF SUPPLIES TO THOSE MOST IN NEED. IT MADE A HUGE DIFFERENCE. THESE PEOPLE ARE JUST AVERAGE, EVERYDAY WORKING PEOPLE. THEY DON’T LIVE IN MANSIONS. IT’S VERY A LOT OF VERY LOW INCOME PEOPLE. SO WHEN OUR NEIGHBORS TO OUR SOUTH ASK FOR HELP AGAIN, REVEREND BEEGLE DIDN’T HESITATE. THESE ARE OUR FELLOW KENTUCKIANS. AND SO WE JUST WANT TO HELP THEM ALL WE CAN, ANY WAY WE CAN, YOU KNOW, WHETHER WE EVER MEET THEM OR NOT, WHETHER THEY EVEN SEE OUR FACE OR KNOW WHO WE ARE. IT DOESN’T MATTER. I COULDN’T FIND THEM BEFORE. YEAH, AND WE WILL HAVE A FULL LIST OF THESE CHURCH ADDRESSES AND THE DROP OFF TIMES ON OUR WEBSITE. I’M REPORTING IN DAYTON, KENTUCKY. RACHEL WLWT NEWS FIVE. SO CLEARLY A LOT OF ITEMS THAT ARE NEEDED. BUT, RACHEL, ARE THERE ANY THINGS, ANY ITEMS THAT THE CHURCH IS SAYING NOT TO DONATE RIGHT NOW? YES. THEY SAY HOLD OFF ON CLOTHING DONATIONS RIGHT NOW. THEY SAY THAT THAT IS JUST NOT THE PRIORITY RIGHT NOW. AND THEY DO TAKE UP A LOT OF SPACE. HOWEVER, THEY MIGHT HAVE A CLOTHING DRIVE SOMETIME DOWN THE LINE.

Ashley Beagle of Visalia Baptist said his church collected the same donations the last time Hazard, Kentucky, flooded in 2022.”Last time we were down there. Literally, it turned my stomach when I saw some of these houses; they were destroyed. These people lose everything,” Beagle said.Reverend Beagle says they ended up taking four trips to Hazard, totaling 20,000 pounds of supplies. Firefighters used ATVs to distribute those supplies to people living in hard-to-reach areas.”It made a huge difference. These people are just average, everyday working people. They don’t live in mansions. It’s a lot of very low-income people,” Beagle said.That’s why when his contacts in Hazard asked for help again, Beagle said he didn’t hesitate, “These are our neighbors. These are our fellow Kentuckians.
