With so many things flying around in the sky, it’s hard to tell what you’re seeing sometimes as stars, satellites and aircraft take up the night sky.But an Oklahoma City man last month had a very unusual sighting, and it’s still hard to figure out exactly what he saw.See the story in the video above“I don’t hear anything, and something is moving in erratic ways. It’s in the shape of a jellybean. But the interior was like plasma, it was just going like this, you know?” said Chris Frederick, in video of capturing the strange object.Frederick has been a teacher for more than two decades and currently works for an Oklahoma City metro area school district. He showed KOCO 5 video he took from his driveway on Jan. 25 off of Northwest 21st Street in Oklahoma City’s Gatewood District. He said it all started that night when his wife wanted to go to Braum’s so they walked out to their car, but after a few minutes, neighbors were calling each other.“He started calling neighbors, and before long, we were all standing out in the street and had our phones out,” Frederick said.Frederick has been a drone pilot for about 10 years after starting to work with them when he and his wife were realtors in Ardmore several years ago. He fired up his drone and attempted to fly it to get a better look at the object.“In the sky at night, you have to have aviation lights, or else it’s not legal,” Frederick said. But then strange things started happening.“My controller talks to me, and it said, ‘unable to take off, electromagnetic interference,’” Frederick said. After he recalibrated the drone a few times, he eventually got it in the air and took pictures of the object, which he estimated to have been about 1,500 feet off the ground. His drone was about 400 feet off the ground when he took the pictures.“It concerns me that something was up there at night at that altitude, that could have been a hazard,” Frederick said.He said his video function wouldn’t work, which was odd. And there was something else; only about four minutes of flight time.“It had a fresh battery in it, it has a 35-minute flight life. And as soon as I took those three pictures, my controller said, ‘low battery, return to home,’” Frederick said.He and his wife continued to see the object for about four hours that night.KOCO 5 showed his pictures and video to experts at the University of Oklahoma for their opinion.“What it is, I don’t know, but I would approach the question as what is it likely to be? That’s where I’m coming from,” said Mukremin Kilic, a professor at the university’s Department of Physics and Astronomy. “From the Plaza District, it’s south of them because we can see the Orion constellation in the background, so we know their point of view.”Kilic acknowledged the object looked strange but, ultimately, said it was likely another drone in the sky.“I could see that red streak, but I don’t know if it’s because I could imagine, maybe it’s a long exposure — I don’t know if it is, I don’t know how long the exposure was, but a drone could have a light on top of it, our planes have lights on them. Drones have lights on them,” Kilic said.In Nov. 2024, Congress held a second hearing on unidentified anomalous phenomena, also known as UAPs, the new term for UFOs. Experts testified the problem is a national security concern and needs to be taken seriously.Kilic said some discussions in his classes are similar.“There are billions of galaxies in the universe — so is there life there? Probably, it’s likely there is. But have we seen it yet? Have we seen any evidence of it yet? Not yet. Astronomers are looking for it,” Kilic said.

“I don’t hear anything, and something is moving in erratic ways. It’s in the shape of a jellybean. But the interior was like plasma, it was just going like this, you know?” said Chris Frederick, in video of capturing the strange object.
Frederick has been a teacher for more than two decades and currently works for an Oklahoma City metro area school district. He showed KOCO 5 video he took from his driveway on Jan. 25 off of Northwest 21st Street in Oklahoma City’s Gatewood District.
He said it all started that night when his wife wanted to go to Braum’s so they walked out to their car, but after a few minutes, neighbors were calling each other.
“He started calling neighbors, and before long, we were all standing out in the street and had our phones out,” Frederick said.
Frederick has been a drone pilot for about 10 years after starting to work with them when he and his wife were realtors in Ardmore several years ago.
He fired up his drone and attempted to fly it to get a better look at the object.
“In the sky at night, you have to have aviation lights, or else it’s not legal,” Frederick said.
But then strange things started happening.
“My controller talks to me, and it said, ‘unable to take off, electromagnetic interference,’” Frederick said.
After he recalibrated the drone a few times, he eventually got it in the air and took pictures of the object, which he estimated to have been about 1,500 feet off the ground. His drone was about 400 feet off the ground when he took the pictures.
