Elon Musk’s latest venture isn’t a new electric car or a space mission—it’s a full-scale shakeup of the U.S. government. As head of the newly created Department of Government Efficiency, Musk has been slashing federal spending in ways that have never been attempted before. Investor Kevin O’Leary believes most Americans are fine with it, even though he expected Congress to push back much harder.
Don’t Miss:
O’Leary, known for his blunt opinions, recently spoke out on social media and in a Fox News interview, defending Musk’s approach. He described the federal government as bloated and inefficient, saying, “Everybody knows the dirty little secret about government—it drips with fat.”
According to O’Leary, taxpayers approve of Musk “going in there with a spatula and scraping out billions of dollars” from federal agencies because they see it as much-needed efficiency rather than reckless cost-cutting. “And people are OK with it. After all, it’s taxpayers’ money. That’s why he’s getting a lot of slack, even though he’s a controversial guy,” he continued.
O’Leary also noted that Musk isn’t facing the level of resistance from Congress that many expected. “I thought he’d get a lot more pushback from Congress, and he’s not,” O’Leary said. “Look at the executional skills he has. There’s nobody like him. Let him do his thing.”

While supporters have praised Musk’s relentless cost-cutting, lawmakers, federal employees, and legal experts have expressed grave concerns. Some members of Congress, particularly Democrats, are worried about DOGE’s access to sensitive financial systems and its broad authority.
