ROSEBUD COUNTY, Mont. – Authorities are asking for the public’s assistance in a vehicle theft investigation in the Rosebud area. The Rosebud County Sheriff’s Office is seeking information on a recent car theft and is urging residents to report any suspicious activity.
The incident occurred between Saturday evening, December 7, 2024, and Sunday morning, December 8, 2024, in the Northern Rosebud County area. Residents in that area – which includes Hathaway, Rosebud, Forsyth, and Ingomar – are urged to reach out with any potential information.
Wheatland County Sheriff’s Office provided a description of the suspect. The suspect is described as a white male in his late 20s to early 30s with shoulder-length brown hair. He was last seen wearing jeans, a t-shirt, and a flannel jacket.
The Wheatland County Sheriff’s Office reported that on December 9, 2024, at approximately 19:59, a suspicious vehicle was spotted near Shawmut. A concerned citizen provided information that led law enforcement to the vehicle in Golden Valley County. When approached, the driver fled west towards Harlowton.
A Wheatland County deputy attempted to use stop sticks, but the suspect continued off-road north of Shawmut. The suspect abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot into a wooded canyon. Despite efforts from a tracking canine unit and drones equipped with heat signature technology, the suspect was not found.
The suspect vehicle and a second pickup were reported stolen from the Forsyth area on Sunday evening. Authorities believe multiple individuals, possibly two or three, may have been involved and could have been traveling in separate vehicles.
