SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — Utah Senate President J. Stuart Adams officially started the 2025 Legislative Session on Tuesday morning, saying “The Utah Dream is alive and well.”
Adams, who is entering his seventh year as Senate President on Utah’s Capitol Hill, welcomed Utah senators with a speech laying out the priorities for the 2025 session. These priorities, he says, will preserve what he called “the Utah Dream” as well as Utah’s republic.
“The Utah Dream is rooted in values we all hold dear, like hard work, community, family, innovation, and opportunity. Where every child, family, and community has a chance to grow and achieve and to prosper using principles of personal freedom, responsibility, and the collective good,” Adams said. “There are some who would like to alter or destroy this Utah Dream. We cannot let that happen.”
In his speech, Adams vowed to keep initiatives he said were driven by out-of-state money from turning “Utah into California.”
Adam’s opening remarks were driven by a theme of Utah leading the nation. He said Utah must lead the nation in energy production through the production of micro-nuclear reactors in the state. He also Utah must lead the way in critical mineral extraction and manufacturing.
The Utah Senate President also indicated strengthening the Utah Dream by cutting Utah’s income tax for a fifth consecutive year and collaborating with neighboring states to help preserve the Great Salt Lake.
Finally, after laying out a need for continued investment in Utah’s students, Adams laid out the need to look forward and shape the future.
“Utah will once again welcome the world in 2034. We will again put on the best Olympic Games ever,” said Adams. “It’s a chance to show the world what we already know – that Utah is not only a remarkable place to visit but a place where dreams come alive.”
