RICH COUNTY, Utah (ABC4) — Officials have released the name of the snowmobiler who was found dead after being buried in an avalanche on Monday, Feb. 3.

The man has been identified as Scott Wright, 37, of Evanston, Wyoming.

“The Rich County Sheriff’s Office would like to extend sincere condolences to Mr. Wright’s family and friends,” the sheriff’s office said in a social media post.

The Rich County Sheriff’s Office said personnel from Cache County, Weber County, Powder Mountain K-9, the Department of Public Safety, and a Black Hawk helicopter assisted in the search.

RICH COUNTY, Utah (ABC4) — A snowmobiler was found dead on Monday evening after being caught in an avalanche in the Monte Cristo Snowmobile Area.

The snowmobiler was identified as a 37-year-old man from Evanston, Wyoming. He was found around 6:20 p.m. on Feb. 3, and officials with the Rich County Sheriff’s Office said his name is not being released at this time.

“The victim had been snowmobiling with a friend when the avalanche occurred,” the sheriff’s office said in a press release. “The friend was unable to locate the victim and called for help.”

Rich County Search and Rescue was dispatched to the scene just after 3 p.m., and the Utah Avalanche Center confirmed on social media that a search was underway for the buried snowmobiler.

The Rich County Sheriff’s Office said personnel from Cache County, Weber County, Powder Mountain K-9, the Department of Public Safety, and a Black Hawk helicopter assisted in the search.

There is no further information at this time.
