(WCIV) — The One SC Fund Grants Committee of the Central Carolina Community Foundation announced Wednesday $1,173,500 in grants to aid 14 South Carolina-based nonprofits in their recovery efforts following Hurricane Helene. They say these funds are intended to provide essential relief and rebuilding assistance to communities affected by the hurricane.
The nonprofit recipients include:
- Broad River Baptist Association
- Cherokee County Meals on Wheels
- Community Initiatives, Inc.
- Fort Lawn Community Center
- Greater Greenwood United Ministry
- Greer Relief & Resources Agency, Inc.
- Habitat for Humanity South Carolina
- Home Works of America, Inc.
- HOPE Missions of the Upstate
- Latino Communications CDC
- Power In Changing
- United Way of Laurens County
- United Way of the Lakelands
- United Way of the Piedmont
These grants supplement a previous $450,000 grant awarded in October 2024 to Feeding the Carolinas, bringing the total Hurricane Helene grant awards from the One SC Fund to over $1.6 million, according to organization officials.
Nancy Lee, executive director of Habitat for Humanity South Carolina, said, “Habitat is wired to serve, and the significant investment from the One SC Fund has been the catalyst for a new housing recovery model developed in partnership with the SC Office of Resilience. We are grateful that due to the collaboration via funding and intake, Habitat will be able to dive into long-term recovery activities at a faster than normal pace, partnering with 25 communities to restore 73 Helene-damaged homes.”
Justo Chalaire, Director of Community Impact at United Way of the Lakelands, said, “We are humbled to be a small part of this impactful effort and proud to stand alongside our local leaders, partners, and volunteers to bring relief and hope to the Lakelands region.”
Donations to the One SC Fund, which have come from individuals, organizations, and businesses nationwide, continue to be needed to support the long-term nonprofit work of disaster and recovery relief from Hurricane Helene across South Carolina, organization officials said.
