Strong thunderstorms possible overnight, cooler air ahead
NOW IT’S TIME FOR ANOTHER CHECK ON OUR FIRST WARNING WEATHER. AND IT IS THE WEATHER ALERT DAY. CONSIDERING THE STORMS THAT WE ARE EXPECTING LATER ON TONIGHT. YES, THEY’RE PROBABLY GOING TO START AT ABOUT 9:00, 930, 10:00. THE FIRST OF THEM WORST WEATHER IS PROBABLY GOING TO BE HERE AT ABOUT MIDNIGHT 1:02 A.M. THAT’S THE WAY IT LOOKS RIGHT NOW. WE’LL BE SLEEPING. MOST OF US WILL BE. I’LL BE HERE. THANK YOU FOR REMINDING ME. YES. NO. WE’RE GOING TO HAVE METEOROLOGISTS ON STAFF OVERNIGHT. IF INDEED THERE IS ANY SEVERE WEATHER. AND THAT’S A POSSIBILITY FOR US TONIGHT. GREAT. LOOK AT THE SUPERDOME. WE HAVE A FEW CLOUDS IN PLACE, BUT NO FOG THAT WE’RE CONCERNED ABOUT. AND TODAY, IF YOU DON’T HAVE ANY PLANS, WELL, WHY NOT HEAD OUT TO THE FAIRGROUNDS? HERE THEY COME, SPINNING OUT OF THE TURN. IT’S LOUISIANA DERBY PREVIEW DAY. BASICALLY, THE HORSES THAT YOU SEE TODAY COULD BE RUNNING IN THE KENTUCKY DERBY. AND THE WEATHER SHOULD BE VERY NICE. TRACK WILL BE FAST. TURF WILL BE FIRM. TEMPERATURE IS GOING TO BE IN THE LOW 80S. OUR TEMPERATURES RIGHT NOW ARE VERY, VERY WARM. TO START YOUR SUNDAY. WE’RE AT 70 AND A LOT OF SPOTS. 70 IN BELLE CHASSE 70. OUR CURRENT TEMPERATURE AT THE LAKE 71 RIGHT NOW IN BOGALUSA. LOT OF WARM AIR MOVING UP FROM THE GULF OF MEXICO. AND THOSE OF YOU THAT REMEMBER A FEW DAYS AGO WHEN WE HAD A COLD FRONT MOVING THROUGH AND A LOT OF WARM AIR AHEAD OF IT. WE HAD STRONG TO SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS. WELL, AGAIN TODAY WE’RE GOING TO GET THE SAME PATTERN PLAYING OUT. IT’S GOING TO BE A VERY SIMILAR SCENARIO. WARM MOIST AIR IN PLACE RIGHT NOW. HERE COMES A COLD FRONT. PROBABLY GOING TO MOVE THROUGH I THINK RIGHT ABOUT 1:00. THAT’S WHEN I THINK THE FRONT SHOULD BE SLIDING THROUGH. HOWEVER, AHEAD OF THE FRONT WE MAY HAVE SOME THUNDERSTORMS DEVELOPING ABOUT THE MID EVENING. SOME OF US ARE IN THE ENHANCED RISK CATEGORY ON THE NORTH SHORE FOR SEVERE WEATHER. IF YOU’RE NOT IN THE ENHANCED RISK AREA, YOU’RE IN THE SLIGHT RISK AREA. WHAT DOES THIS MEAN? BASICALLY, NOT A LOT. NORTH SHORE A SLIGHTLY ELEVATED CHANCE TO SEE SEVERE WEATHER. BUT ACROSS THE BOARD WE JUST HAVE TO BE VIGILANT. AND THE TIMING ON THIS I THINK IS GOING TO BE PRETTY GOOD BECAUSE MOST OF US ARE GOING TO BE AT HOME SAFE IN OUR BEDS. BUT LET’S GO AHEAD AND GO HOUR BY HOUR. SHOW YOU THE DAY TODAY. SKIES CLEARING OFF A BIT SHOULD BECOME MOSTLY SUNNY BY THE AFTERNOON. HIGH TEMPERATURE GOING TO BE RIGHT AROUND 81. 82 DEGREES IN A LOT OF SPOTS. WE MAY HAVE AN ISOLATED SHOWER POPPING UP SO THAT $2 PONCHO, THAT REAL SMALL UMBRELLA YOU CAN PUT IN YOUR HIP POCKET. I WOULD DO IT BECAUSE WE COULD HAVE A PASSING SHOWER OR TWO LATE THIS AFTERNOON. THIS EVENING, PAUSING THINGS AT 9:00, STARTING TO SEE THE FIRST OF THE THUNDERSTORMS DEVELOP. REALLY AT ABOUT MIDNIGHT. OKAY, THAT’S WHEN THINGS START TO GET ACTIVE FOR US. LET’S GO FROM MIDNIGHT TO 3 A.M. HERE COMES THE COLD FRONT. THAT’S WHEN I THINK THE CHANCE FOR STRONG THUNDERSTORMS IS PROBABLY THE HIGHEST. BUT BY FIRST THING, SUNDAY MORNING FRONT SHOULD BE THROUGH. START TO SEE A WIND SHIFT. SKIES WILL BE CLEARING FOR US AS WE LOOK TOWARDS SUNDAY AFTERNOON. YOUR HIGH TEMPERATURE ON SUNDAY? WELL, IT’S GOING TO STRUGGLE TO GET TO 60 DEGREES. COLD AIR IS GOING TO BE RUSHING IN ALL DAY. IT’S GOING TO FEEL LIKE IT’S IN THE 50S PRETTY MUCH ALL DAY SUNDAY. SO THIS IS OUR THREAT RISK AS FAR AS SEVERE WEATHER GOES TONIGHT. OUR BIGGEST CONCERN IS DAMAGING WINDS AND TORNADOES. THEY’RE POSSIBLE WE COULD HAVE A FEW ISOLATED CASES OF HAIL, BUT FLOODING RAINS IT’S SOMETHING WE’RE CONSIDERING, BUT IT IS NOT LIKELY. SO HERE’S YOUR FORECAST FOR TODAY. PARTLY SUNNY AND WINDY AND ISOLATED SHOWERS POSSIBLE HIGH TEMPERATURE MAKING IT TO THE LOW 80S IN MOST LOCATIONS. TONIGHT. NUMEROUS SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS. WEATHER ALERT EVENING IF YOU WILL. THE THUNDERSTORMS MAY BE STRONG THEN BY TOMORROW MORNING, RAIN SHOULD BE DONE. DECREASING CLOUDS, BREEZY AND COOLER WITH A HIGH TEMPERATURE RIGHT AROUND 6061 DEGREES. WE HAVE ANOTHER ROUND OF SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS GOING TO BE MOVING IN LATE TUESDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY MORNING, AND THEN WE GET COOLER AGAIN BY THE END OF NEXT WEEK. THAT’
Strong thunderstorms possible overnight, cooler air ahead
Numerous showers and thunderstorms are in our forecast tonight, and some of the storms could possibly be severe overnight. However, your Saturday should be a mainly dry and very warm day, with winds of 10 to 15 mph, and gusts higher than that, and your high temperature gets into the low 80s. A cold front approaches tonight, and by the late evening and early morning hours, we will have numerous showers and thunderstorms in place, and these thunderstorms could contain some damaging winds or even isolated tornadoes. Flooding rains are also a possibility, but we don’t see them is being likely. The rain should be done by Sunday morning, and Sunday will be a mainly sunny and cooler day, as the high temperature will struggle to get up to the low 60s. It will also be windy on Sunday, so it will feel cool for much of the day. Cooler weather will be in place for the beginning of next week, another good chance for showers and thunderstorms overnight Tuesday into Wednesday. These storms may contain some heavy rain, and that is our biggest concern with this system right now. Cooler moves in for the end of the week and the weekend, as temperatures will likely be below normal for Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
