One woman is going viral for her confrontation with California Governor Gavin Newsom. More than 11 million people have watched her tense conversation with him after her daughter’s school burned down in the Pacific Palisades.

“Governor, governor, I live here, governor. That was my daughter’s school, governor. Please tell me what you’re going to do about it,” yelled Pacific Palisades resident Rachel Darvish.
She ran to meet the governor as he appeared to be getting into a car.

Governor Newsom pointed to his phone and said, “I’m literally talking to the president right now to specifically answer the question of what we can do for you and your daughter.”
“Can I hear it? Can I hear your call? Because I don’t believe it,” she said.
“I’m sorry, there’s literally – I’ve tried five times. That’s why I’m walking around to make the call,” the governor responded. “Why is the president not taking your call?” she asked. “Because it’s not going through, I have to get cell service,” he said.
“So let’s get it. Let’s get it. I want to be here when you call the president,” she repeated. “I appreciate – I’m doing that right now, and it’s to immediately get reimbursements, individual assistance, and to help you,” the governor said.
“Why was there no water in the hydrants, governor? Is it gonna be different next time?” she asked.
“It has to be. Has to be. Of course,” the governor quickly responded. “What are you gonna do?” she repeated. The governor appeared to briefly laugh before repeating, “I’m doing everything I can.”
“I would fill up the hydrants myself, but would you do that?” she yelled as he started to get into the car. “I would do whatever I can,” he repeated.
In the video’s comments, many people admired Governor Newsom’s willingness to speak with Darvish. “The fact that he actually stopped to speak to her and didn’t pass her off to a security guard says everything,” this person pointed out.
“I’m not sure how I feel about this exchange. I don’t know if I would’ve been so diplomatic with her,” this person questioned.
Many people wished she had made better use of her time with the governor. “I get the panic when you are desperate, but at least ask him a reasonable question,” this person suggested.
“She just wanted to yell at him and blame him to make this all political. not actually help or make a difference,” this person said.
“I’m not a Newsom fan at all but when does a civilian get the authority or clearance to listen to a call between the president and a governor,” this person asked.
Others defended the woman’s approach. “I don’t think she actually intended to hear the phone call. I think that was meant to say that she doesn’t believe he’s actually making it,” this person suggested.
“She wasn’t in her right mind… Give her a break like he did,” the person said.
President Biden announced the federal government would cover 100% of the cost of the initial disaster response to the wildfires. He also called on Congress to “step up” when it’s time to get people “the kind of help they need.”
