If you plan to take the interstate between Casa Grande and Phoenix tomorrow, you’ll want to budget a little more time — and patience.
Lane restrictions on westbound Interstate 10 are slated between mileposts 172 and 174 from 9 p.m. tomorrow to 5 a.m. Wednesday, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation.
Crews will repair a barrier on the Gila River Bridge during this time.
Drivers are advised to drive with caution, expect delays and allow extra travel time, ADOT said.
This is part of ongoing construction on the Wild Horse Pass Corridor.
The I-10 Bridges Over the Gila River Project will replace the existing two-lane bridges with new three-lane bridges with wide shoulders and reconstruct the existing two-lane roadway approaches as three-lane roadways in each direction with wide shoulders in the median of I-10. The Gila River Bridge is about 1,400 feet long.
A construction award was made on Jan. 12 after a winning bid of $50.9 million was received for construction costs. Construction on the bridge began May 13 and is expected to last through 2026.
In June, a sinkhole that formed on the Gila River Bridge restricted the same lanes for two days, which snarled traffic headed toward Maricopa badly.
