Distracted driving assembly hosted at Circle High School for students | Billings News

CIRCLE, Mont. – Circle High School is hosting a distracted driving assembly to educate students about the serious consequences of distracted driving. It will feature real-life accounts, videos, and discussions that depict the potential outcomes, including injury and loss of life.

The 90-minute event will take place in the school’s gymnasium on Wednesday, February 5, 2025, at 9:30 a.m. and is open to students in grades 8 through 12, as well as parents and local first responders.

Jerry Prete, the President and CEO of Move Over Montana, will lead the assembly. Prete, a nationally recognized public speaker with over 30 years of experience in the fire service and 26 years as an EMT, will present the dangers of distracted, drowsy, drunk, drugged, and careless driving.

The program will include real accident scenes that Prete has encountered during his career, emphasizing the consequences of being a distracted or drunk driver. The assembly will also cover Montana’s “Move Over Laws” and include sections on seatbelts and airbags to capture the students’ attention.

Prete is a nationally accredited emergency vehicle operations instructor and the Montana state coordinator for the Traffic Incident Management program. He provides training to fire, law, and EMS departments across Montana and serves as a safety officer for Miles City Fire and Custer County Fire.

Parent permission is required for students to attend. For questions, contact Circle High School.
